“Dipshit” music video by Paintbrush Mickey

Beat Production:

Paintbrush Mickey is a local artist I am currently working with. The song was recorded and produced with Logic Pro X back in 2020. All the sounds were produced using virtual instruments located with the DAW. We did used some basic compression and eq adjustments to balance out the sound. We collaborated on the edits and mixing then combined what we came up with to produce the final product. I am in deals with this artist to master a few of his tracks he has coming out. This will be my first artist to work with that has content already distributed.  You can find him and his music at the links below. Like and Subscribe to his channel. He would really appreciate the support.

Vocals:

After the vocals were recorded, distortion was added which can be heard in the intro to sound like a distorted public service announcement. Compression and basic equalization were added to the vocals to have them sit better in the mix. This artist has segments where he tends to scream and get louder in sections, so a limiter was added to the vocals to avoid clipping during those moments. There were multiple takes recorded then chopped and edited to create what you hear.

Video:

The video was recorded on an iPhone. It’s amazing what you can get done with a cellphone these days. I recorded a lot of continuous footage messing around with a few ideas. That phone call he receives at the end was a real phone call. His car caught on fire at another location. The footage was chopped up and edited in iMovie adding in Visual distortion and text in different spots to add a pop.

Business Connection:

This ties into what Joe Epic Music wants to do with its clients. We were able to record, produce, mix, master and produce a music video for this artist. These along with a few other services are what I plan on providing artists here at Joe Epic Music. This was more of a basic production, but I plan to build my knowledge further by working with other artists and working on more complicated projects in the future

Here's a song I came up with for my Projects and Portfolio III Class. It's called "On The Run". This is my first attempt at recording myself rap to a beat I created.

I started this beat off with the nice R&B rhythm used in a few hits back in the day. That’s where I got the inspiration to create this track. PM Dawn was one of them that used this particular drum pattern on the song "Set adrift on memory bliss". I changed it slightly to make it a little different. I was going for a smooth R&B sound with a hint of the ’80s with the synths and reverb that was added to the track. This could be used for a singer-songwriter as a track idea.

My bassline follows the kick drum pattern to make it fit into the groove smoothly. The notes were extended a little more to fill the emptiness. I also added a couple of extra notes to the bassline to make it follow the rhythm even more. I added another bass to layer it for a different sound. The track starts with the vocals and bass then builds up to the main intro of the song. The vocals and melody were dropped to display what the track would sound like for a verse at bar 13. At bar 16 a breakdown of the beat starts for a smoother transition to the beat change taking place at bar 17. The track takes a new turn at bar 17 where the drum pattern and chords change.

You know I chose the reverb for my time-based effects for that old-timer in me that likes the 80’s sounds and applied it to the whole track. I slowly added a stereo delay for the echo sound which actually to me sounded even better. I added it to the shaker, melody, vox, and cowbell tracks. I automated the high pass filter of the eq on the melody track to give it a breathing like sound for more effect. Pan automation was used on the Sampler track to separate the sample better.

The last part I added was a recording of my wife doodling along to the beat. That was the fun part as neither of us has a good singing voice. We recorded a few ideas until we decided on the one used in the track. Needless to say, I had to use the flex pitch tool to place her voice on the right key to make sure it didn’t sound dissonant. I was able to manipulate those vocals then chopped them up to fit the song and tie it together.
